I’ve probably never been as excited in my whole life as I am now. As some of you have read in my previous post 2010 – An experience, I already have had a whole lot to be thankful for and already am experiencing many new and exciting things. As I am sitting and typing this I have a growing excitement for what 2010 is going to hold, I just feel completely different towards this year (and trust me, as a non-sports fanatic, the FIFA World Cup has the minimum to do with it) and can’t wait to fully jump into it.
Right now
So I am already amped up for this year, but the reason I am so incredibly excited right now is my trip to Cape Town.
This coming Saturday I’m flying down to the mother city with a friend, this already is quite exciting as my friend is going through a really tough time right now (both his grandmother and mother passed away last year) and now will really be an amazing opportunity to share with him on what God has been doing in my life and to encourage him.
At the same time I’m going to see Hendrik again, now he already has an amazing testimony of how God broke into his life and started to take him on the most amazing adventures. Hendrik probably has been one of my friends and an amazing brother in the faith, I’m so amped at how God is stirring his faith on a daily basis, and whenever we speak I can just feel the grace of God upon his life. End of 2008 I visited him for a week, and I probably never had as much fun as then (And this time will be more amazing). I saw him last year June, and since then I just heard amazing stories coming from his side. So going down this weekend (for 1 week) just to go visit and share in what has been happening, and also just to go and encourage him is going to boost this year into full throttle.
And then there is Hein, another great friend of mine from school, who is currently in the navy – but studying at Stellenbosch. Saw him in December 2008 the last time, and this trip is just going to enhance the fellowship that us three (Me, Hendrik and Hein) have. I really feel like Hein needs all the support he can get at this time to keep focused on the main prize – Jesus Christ – and going down there is just going to be a reminder for him about the great time we had as brothers 2 years ago, encouraging each other.
There is also the quite big possibility of me seeing my one cousin again who moved to Cape Town a while ago (I haven’t seen him in 6 years) and then also meeting up with a new friend I made last Saturday night.
Rest of the year
Other things to get excited about this year is that me and a couple of friends are planning a trip up to Zimbabwe to do a food drop, but mainly to go and visit Wessie and Somien and see how it is going in their new house in Buluwayo and also to just go and encourage them. So far I have about 5 people who are really keen to go. This is so exciting!!!
So I said earlier that I’m not as excited about the FIFA World Cup as everyone else, what I am excited about is all the people who will be coming to South Africa this year and see what great country this is. And at the same time that Christians (myself included) will climb out of their comfort zones and take the gospel to the nations (this year it will be easy, they will be just down the road from you).
There are many more things to be excited about this year, and I’ll probably post on those things individually as they pop up into my heart, but honestly, I think 2010 is going to ROCK!!!
